Sleeping 'Lion'will roar again

Humble Lion Football Club's first appearance in the Red Stripe Premier League semi-finals has left a bitter taste, but they promise to come better by winning the title for Clarendon soon.

The club faced relegation in the first round and bounced back in the next two rounds with an impressive run after Donovan Duckie took over as head coach from Craig Butler last November.

Following a fourth-place finish in the preliminary stage, Humble Lion was matched against Arnett Gardens.

However, in the two-leg semi-finals, Arnett won 4-3 on aggregate. That means Humble Lion will have to wait at least another year to win the national title for the first time.

Assistant coach, Linval 'Palla' Wilson, said the club is already looking forward to next season.

"We give thanks as at the end of the first round, we had only eight points from 11 games. Then, coach Donovan Duckie came in and took the team two rounds to get into the semi-finals. On the other hand, the other three teams that advanced to the semis were always in contention," Wilson told STAR Sports.

"However, we must say thanks to Mike Henry (Humble Lion president), technical staff, support staff, supporters and other persons behind the team. We really wanted to deliver for Clarendon because since Hazard (now Portmore United) the parish has not lifted the trophy," he also said.

"We will take a break and assess the season (2014-15). Then look to improve our roster for next season. We have to also look at bringing in younger players. We want to become a household name like the other top clubs in Jamaica. We are determined to win the title in the future," Wilson outlined.
