With the National Senior Trials set for June 4-7, Jamaica's top golfers will be testing their skills at the Caymanas Golf & Country Club this weekend.

The Seafreight National Amateur Golf Championship will take place from today through Monday.

Among the competitors entered is last year's overall winner, Dr Mark Newnham, who will be vying against national representatives Brian Bailey, Ian Facey, Rory Jardine, Radcliff Knibbs, William Knibbs, Opeton Marshall, Sean Morris, Johnny Newnham and Easton Wiliams.

Female national representatives in the competition include Tiana Cruz, Michele Gabay and Kei Harris and Rochelle Prince.

The tournament will be competed in several flights, including 0-6, 7-11, 12-17 and 18+ to include the men and senior. The super senior men will play in three categories 0-12, 13-18 and 19 and over, while the ladies will compete in two categories, 0-12 and 13-24.

Although the main championship is a four-day event, golfers will also be able to compete in a three-day and two-day event.

Tournament director, David Mais, remarked that the Seafreight NAC Championship will provide keen competition for those persons invited to the National Trials.

He noted that it is significant that the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships will be hosted in Jamaica this year and that there are a significant number of competitors who wish to represent Jamaica on home ground.
