Men on drug charges get bail extension

Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

Two St James men, who were reportedly held with more than two pounds of cocaine during a police raid in 2013, had their bails extended to July 31 in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Hugh Roach, from Westgate Hills in Montego Bay, and Kirk Levey, from Porto Bello, are charged with possession of and dealing in two pounds and 3.24 ounces of cocaine.

When the case against the men was mentioned before Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie, it was disclosed that documentation from a mobile-service provider, which had previously been requested by the men's lawyer, Trevor Ho Lyn, was still outstanding.

A subpoena was subsequently issued with a view of getting the outstanding documentation before the court. Roach and Levey also had their bails extended at that time.

It is alleged that on March 6, 2013, at approximately 5:20 p.m., a police team was on an operation in Westgate Hills when members of the team saw Roach and Levey on the front patio of Roach's house.

Roach allegedly attempted to hide a plastic bag under his chair, but the bag was retrieved and found to contain a rectangular package wrapped in masking tape, which, when cut open, had a white powdery substance resembling cocaine. Roach and Levey were arrested and charged.
