Alkaline defends eye tattoo

... says photo claiming otherwise is fake

Curtis Campbell, STAR Writer

Dancehall enigma Alkaline says viral photos, which allegedly show him posing without an inked sclera (white of the eye) are fake.

The deejay broke on to the dancehall scene years ago claiming that he had tattooed the sclera of his eyes. He drew much attention due to his darkened eyes with some persons claiming at the time that the tattoo was not real.

Fast-forward to 2015, and a photo has surfaced on social media with Alkaline posing with a child. Unlike some of his more recent pictures, his eyes appear white.

But according to Kymona Bartley, Alkaline's manager and sister, the new photos have been edited and they have the original photos.

Speaking on Alkaline's behalf, Bartley told THE WEEKEND STAR that persons are always trying to hurt the artiste's career.

"The photos are not authentic. Those photos were possibly taken a year or two ago. We went to an event and he took the photo with the promoter's son. It was photoshopped and we have the original," she said.

Bartley also sent THE WEEKEND STAR a copy of the same photo said to be the original. However, on this copy, appear to be black.

Since the release of the controversial photos, persons on social media have been celebrating what they claim to be the end of a desperate publicity stunt orchestrated by Alkaline to get attention.

"See a long time mi a tell idiot people sey it fake like him skin. Some a unno too gullible," one person posted on Facebook.

Another posted, "Di bwoy smart and get unno fi a talk bout him ... but at the same time dat eye thing is demonic. Read it up."

Meanwhile, Alkaline is gearing up to release a new EP and will perform at several overseas events over the summer.
