Landlord accused of robbing tenants

Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

An incensed landlord accused of stealing a sum of money from a number of tenants, later destroying property, had his bail extended when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charged with malicious destruction of property, simple larceny and breaches of the Rent Restriction Act is Lorenzo Walker, who pleaded not guilty to the offences.

Allegations are that following a long-standing dispute with several tenants, most of whom are from the same family, the accused man reportedly wanted the occupants off his property.

It is believed Walker stole a sum of $100,000 from one complainant, a sum of $3,000 from another, and $170,000 from a third complainant. The fourth complainant in the matter claimed to have lost a whatnot at the hands of the accused man. All four complainants are believed to be Walker's tenants.

In court, Walker had his bail extended by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey. He is scheduled to reappear in court on September 1 for trial. A fingerprint order was also made against him.
