Plot and scheme in the workplace

Yuh have some people inna di workplace who need fi brush and scrape off di ‘brown’ offa dem nose so dat dem can stop from being a hindrance and problem to odda people on di job.

Di ‘brown-nose’ people dem, a unnu mi a chat?! Why unnu like carry unnecessary news fi make oddas seem inadequate just fi try fi get ahead? Why unnu like tell lie pon odda people just because unnu want fi be among di whois- who inna di people dem company? Why unnu like fi watch and inform and all embellish di story fi mek it look a way fi mek someone else lose dem job? As Tony Matterhorn woulda seh, “It don’t look good!”

The workplace is a diverse melting pot of all different kinds of people. While it is impossible to like everyone at work, it is selfish and uncharitable to make people’s lives a living hell at work! Some a dem, because dem inna higher position or aspiring to get there, dem plot and scheme against anyone who dem see as a threat or anybody who naa tolerate dem behaviour!

UNDERACHIEVED

Fi constantly a tek set pon people and a stress dem is quite unprofessional and pathetic; because nuff a dem who a try run workplace cyaa even run dem yaad!! Mi hate fi see, especially, when there are some older people in an organisation who give young people a hard time. Because some a dem old and underachieved, dem work overtime fi block di growth or promotion weh di young people dem fi get! There will always be a need and a place for older and wiser folks in the workplace, as they are the ones who can teach we di ropes, but when dem a go come off like a plague and a Uriah, mi no want have no lot or part wid dem!

This kind of behaviour is counter-productive and a liability to any company. When workers are demotivated and disenchanted, dem jus a go come a work and do di basics, and cut! Dem won’t go di extra mile or make di extra effort because dem no feel dem can grow!

Nuff a dem have dem dutty house weh want fi clean up, dem man or woman weh no want dem, and di bills weh dem owe, cause dem a live above dem means, fi go consider instead of making di work environment even more difficult. In life, yuh no haffi crush a next man skull fi reach to di top because di same man yuh crush today can rise like di phoenix tomorrow. The field slave versus house slave mentality still exists, and it tun some people inna “boasy slave”! Dem head so far up inna di boss intestine so til dem no realise seh dem will never be di “master”.

WAH DI HYPE

Everybody a get pay pon di same pay slip, so a wah di hype fa? I’m all for being nice to di boss, but it must never be at di expense of a next person’s work! Dem have bills fi pay and kids fi feed too! Sometime di way some a dem love hype and gwaan like a dem own di place, mi haffi remind dem fi look good on di colour of dem skin!

Everyone has his entrance and exit – some by will, others by force! Nothing is wrong with some adulation, but when it a go do to di point weh it become a clandestine plot to get rid of another employee or make their time at work stressful, mi no play dat, and it also speaks to di lack of integrity and self- esteem of di perpetrator! We won’t always be nice, but we don’t need to be unkind.

The everyday work world is dynamic and can be frustrating and difficult in and of itself. I’m all for constructive criticism and reprimanding an employee if the situation warrants it. But when it come to fi jus a suck up to di boss wid information about others, dat is not a good look. Furthermore, yuh neva know yuh can lose your job or position. To be a lackey shows that the person is lacking, because misery loves company!!!

To all who can relate, just buss a Miss Kitty blank and gwaan pray. God will either remove di Satan dem from outta yuh life or put you on a higher pedestal, where you can be a testimony and a beacon of hope for others!!!

Big up Shereka and the entire crew over by Gloria’s Port Royal!! Everybody need fi go deh!
