Denbigh 2015 biggest yet - Norman Grant

With days to go, president of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) Norman Grant says that the Denbigh 2015 agricultural show will be the biggest yet.

Grant said, where vending is concerned, there is an 80 per cent registration.

He said, so far, 200 of the 250 vendors have been registered, while work to get the grounds in readiness is well advanced.

Grant said that, despite the drought and the irresponsibility of the slash-and-burn exercise, he expects a very positive show.

The Star observed a food court being built in honour of the late Minister of Agriculture Roger Clarke.

"This is to be opened by Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller on the last day of the festival," Grant said. "Each parish is given $300,000 by the JAS to offset preparedness (for the show)."

Meanwhile, when the grounds was visited recently, scores of workers plus heavy-duty equipment were seen working feverishly. Areas were being painted while some buildings were getting new flooring.

It was revealed that there will be a collaborative effort between the Praedial Larceny Prevention Unit and JAS to have farmers register their animals and goods for display at the show.

Grant says all will be completed for the show to be held from tomorrow to Sunday at a cost of J$65M.
