Trainee chef remanded for murder

WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James trainee chef, accused of the April 25 murder of Granville resident Cornel Murray, was remanded following his latest appearance in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Shou-wayne Dawes, 29, is charged with murder. Allegations are, on April 21, Dawes got into a verbal confrontation with Murray, a taxi operator, over taxi fare.

During the argument, Dawes slapped Murray in the face and reportedly said "Remember say you diss me".

Four days later, Murray was allegedly approached by Dawes who was carrying a firearm. Explosions were heard and Murray was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

When the case was mentioned on Monday, the scene-of-crime and post-mortem reports were outstanding.

Resident Magistrate Natalie Hart-Hines subsequently remanded Dawes until August 11, when the case will be rementioned.
