Jamaica's junior athletes who start competition at the XV111 Junior Pan Am Championships tomorrow have settled well at their base at the Lister Centre on the campus of the University of Alberta, Canada.

The team of 20 males and 16 female athletes have attended three training sessions since their arrival late Monday.

Head coach, Michael Carr, speaking to STAR Sports yesterday, was upbeat ahead of the start of competition.

No injuries

"So far, so good; no injury concerns and the team is in good spirits. We attended two training sessions on Tuesday, and we are just coming from another session," said Carr, who stated that later in the day, relay passes would be the focus.

The team is staying10 minutes away from the venue.

"This is a big plus for us as it takes us around 10 minutes to reach there. This is really good, and we are taking advantage of this," said Carr.

"The team is in high spirits and we are hoping that when it matters most, they are there to deliver."

The long-time coach, who was at the helm when Jamaica topped the tables two years ago at the World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, was pleased by the support given by the organisers.

"The organisers have been very supportive, and when we ask for help in any area, they are willing to help us,"said Carr.

The country will be hoping to better the medal haul of two years ago, when it earned two silver medals in Medellin, Colombia.

Christoffe Bryan finished second in the boys' high jump; and the boys' 4x100m relay quartet of Todd, Antonio Henry, Jevaughn Minzie, and Jahzeel Murphy also won silver.
