Fraser-Pryce says she may double in Beijing

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

World champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce said she may do the sprint double at next month's International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Athletics in Beijing, China.

During a press conference ahead of today's Diamond League meet in Stockholm, Sweden, Fraser-Pryce, who earlier this year said she would only be doing the 100m in Beijing, said the 200m is still possible.

"I was down to do the 100m and relay, but the 200m is still possible. My coach (Stephen Francis) did say earlier that I was not running the 200m, but last week I was in practice and he said I should do a 100m, a 200m and a 250m," said Fraser-Pryce.

"I said, 'Why am I going all that way? I'm not running 200 at the World Champs?' And he said, 'Who says you're not running?' so I said: 'You did!'' and he said, 'I've changed my mind. I'm not sure.' The thing is, I've already earned a spot in the 200 as champion, so I wouldn't be taking it away from anybody else."

The Jamaican will compete in the 100m in Stockholm today, her first race since winning the 100m in Paris in a world leading 10.74.

Meanwhile, Fraser-Pryce also admitted that while the 200m for her is more strategic, she prefers the 100m.

"The 200 for me is definitely more strategic. When I get to the start line, I am thinking, Do I go hard for the first 50, do I go 80 per cent and then blast the last 100?''

"I've been training hard since and running some longer distances over 200m, which I don't like. I'm looking forward to getting my racing started again."
