FAMILY FEUD LEADS TO STONE WAR

Dramatic incident caught on tape

Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

A desperate family squabble in Portsmouth in Portmore, St Catherine, captured on tape, is the subject of talk among not only online viewers, but also between relatives involved who admit the matter has yet to be resolved.

When THE STAR visited the Portsmouth community, popularly known, as 'Belgium', a 61-year-old woman, who claimed to have been front and centre in the melee, sought to shed some light on the July 17 occurrence.

The senior citizen, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that she is very much aware of the family's long-standing dispute, which appears to be ongoing.

"Make I tell you something, a one big dutty fight deh so! One a di time dem nearly push me down because me a try fi part di fight dem," she began. "The fling and the ray ray that you see on Facebook is a father, daughter, aunty, and sister. The video weh yu see wasn't one (fight). It was more than one. The situation is father against daughter. Well, what really happen, him claim say my granddaughter dem a trouble him girlfriend say dem a throw word and stuff like that."

The elder told our news team that she had approached the police station desirous of filing a formal report, but was unsuccessful in doing so.

"I even went to the station after to sort it out, and 100 Man is aware of the situation. Waterford (police), they know about it too. The police dem say, boy, this a family thing and dem nuh want get involved," she explained.

According to the senior citizen, she is absolutely outraged that the recording had been posted to the Internet, and quite frankly embarrassed about the entire incident.

When THE STAR made checks in other sections of the community, several others believed that the passing of snide remarks between relatives resulted in the fracas that was captured on tape.

The almost three-minute tape posted to a local Facebook page has garnered over 133,000 views, and received nearly 3,000 shares. Interestingly, the video did not appear to portray persons utilising traditional dangerous weapons of choice. The subjects captured on tape instead opted to use less threatening items including stones, glass bottles, and even the occasional broom stick made an appearance.

Several users took to the comment section of the video to express their discontent, while others made much delight of the spectacle.

"Wid neighbours like these who needs enemies" wrote one user.

When THE STAR visited the Greater Portmore (100 Man), Bridgeport, and Waterford police stations, officers stationed at each told our news team that they have seen the video posted to various social media websites, but none seemed to have a formal report stemming from the matter.
