Dad's bail extended after chopping daughter

Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

A man accused of wounding his daughter had his bail extended when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Ian Breakenridge, who pleaded "guilty with explanation" to the offence.

Allegations are that, on the day of the incident, the accused man and the 21-year-old female complainant

had an argument during which Breakenridge used a machete to chop her left hand.

"Your Honour, she and her sister attack me with a bottle," Breakenridge began.

The court heard that the complainant and the accused reside at the same dwelling.

A probing Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams sought to get a better understanding of the situation by requesting to know the purpose of the bottle in the fracas.

The complainant, after being questioned, explained that she did, in fact, have the bottle as a sort of weapon to use in her defence against her father.

RM Shelly-Williams ordered both to participate in a mediation session at the Corporate Area Probation Office.

Breakenridge is scheduled to reappear in court on September 4, when he is expected to report if the matter had been resolved. A fingerprint order was also made.
