Children, age five to 16 years, got valuable lessons in various dance moves from 2004 Dancehall Queen, Queen Latesha, and Ravers Clavers dancer, Desha Davis, the daughter of Dancehall icon Beenie Man, during a summer camp recently.

The camp was put on by Kari Douglas, the councillor for the Trafalgar Division, at the International University of the Caribbean, 5 Lady Musgrave Road.

The camp facilitated over 50 participants, and ran from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28.

Douglas said she was pleased with the camp, which is a timely activity for children on Summer holidays. "Having developed a personal relationship with a large number of youths within communities in the Travalgar Division, it became clear to me that much more is needed in terms of the establishment of programmes to effectively instill the core values that would be paramount to our young people's advancement academically," she said.

She stressed that extra-curricular activities such as dancing will not only unearth talents in her division, but also build the youngsters' self-esteem.

Queen Latesha, who will leave the Island in the next two weeks to teach dance lessons in Poland and Sweeden, is also part of a cultural-exchange programme. She will be back in the island in October.

Davis is apart of the Ding Dong-led Ravers Clavers dance movement, which has released dances such as Syvah, Lowe Mi Nuh and Shampoo, among others.
