VOICES TOLD ME TO KILL

Man reveals to residents after chopping another to death

A community in Manchester was plunged into mourning last weekend following the bizarre chopping death of a man by an alleged mentally ill man.

Information reaching our news team is that the perpetrator was overheard by residents saying God told him to commit the act.

Mentally ill

However, when our news team contacted head of the Manchester Police Division, Superintendent Melvin Brown, he told us that it was the first he heard that account.

Brown said, "He must be listening to other voices ..."

When asked if it was the view of the police that the perpetrator was mentally ill, Brown said, "He appears to be of unsound mind, we assume, but a doctor would determine that."

The deceased man, Leo 'Fred' Hanlan, 40, of a Marshall Crescent in May Day in the parish, was killed at his home about 4:40 p.m.

THE STAR gathered that Hanlan was in his yard when he was attacked and chopped several times.

According to the police, they were summoned to the scene and on arrival Hanlan was found lying in blood.

Our news team understands that he was pronounced dead at hospital.

The police told THE STAR that the mentally ill man has been removed from the community to a facility for treatment.

The Manchester police are investigating.
