Alleged rogue cop released from hospital

The 29-year-old policeman who was hospitalised after he was badly beaten by residents at Morgans district near Spaldings in Clarendon was discharged from the Percy Junor Hospital in Spaldings yesterday.

The constable from St Catherine North Division was discharged into police custody, after spending a night in hospital under police guard. He was taken to the Alligator Pond police lockup in Manchester.

Information is that the rogue cop and his cronies attempted to force open a window at a house owned by a small farmer who was awakened by strange sounds. It is reported that when the farmer went to investigate, the men were seen, and he made an alarm.

Beaten and chopped

They ran and were chased by residents. The constable was held, but his cronies escaped. He was beaten and chopped all over his body. He was rescued by the police.

A white 1995 Nissan Sunny motor car, which is believed to be the vehicle used by the men, was seized by the police. A registration plate which was assigned to the car was found in the trunk. The registration plate which was seen on the car is said to be one registered to a 1997 Mitsubishi Libero owned by a man from Spanish Town, St Catherine.

One Glock magazine with five rounds of 9mm cartridges, one cellular phone and a carry all vest were also found.

Detectives from the Manchester CIB are to question the rogue cop for a file to be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
