Potcheen heads field for None Such Sprint

POTCHEEN

Defending Caribbean Sprint champion and Gold Cup winner POTCHEEN heads the scale at 57.0 kilos for Saturday's 1200-metre None Such Sprint.

The Harry Parsard-trained run-on sprinter has been penciled in two kilos heavier than United States-bred stablemate UPPA TUNE for the $1.15m race.

Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta's stayer, Prime Minister's Stakes winner PERFECT NEIGHBOUR, is slated to carry 54.0 kilos as he continues preparations for the longer races at the back end of the season.

POTCHEEN returns off a three-month lay-up, having last raced late May when he exploded past FORTUNEONEHUNDRED and TALENTED TONY K to win the 1100-metre Lotto Sprint in 1:06.0 with topweight 57.0 kilos.

Trainer Patrick Lynch has two runners among the 10 entrants - CRUCIAL APPEAL and TRADITIONAL PRINCE.

CRUCIAL APPEAL was beaten into third by UPPA TUNE in the 1000-metre straight Reggae Trophy on July 11. Lynch's speedster returns at 51.0 kilos, down six pounds, looking to capitalise as the fastest in the line-up and reporting 14lb lighter than POTCHEEN.

CRUCIAL APPEAL could also be looking to set up the race for TRADITIONAL PRINCE. Lynch's run-on sprinter will carry 50.0 kilos, the same as Parsard's other four runners - PETE'SWILDONE, SUPERIOR QUALITY, WINGS OF HOPE and STAR NEW VISTA.

DaCosta's other entrant in the event dominated by six Parsard horses is HOVER CRAFT, who will also carry 50.0 kilos.
