Mineral Boss Records making big moves

Mineral Boss Records (MBR) is one of the hottest new record labels on the Jamaican dancehall music scene. Over the last three years, the label, operated by Cleon Jones, aka Corey the Mineral Boss, has produced and released songs for a number of popular reggae and dancehall artistes, including I-Octane, Richie Spice, Chuck Fenda, QQ, Nesbeth and Anthony Cruz.

"Producing music and working with artistes has been a lifelong dream of mine. This is something I really love doing. Music and entertainment are two of my greatest passions," said Corey.

The St Catherine-based label is enjoying a huge buzz with its River Bed rhythm that was released in March.

The rhythm features songs from I-Octane, Esco, Quick Cook, Nesbeth, Burning Kry, MBR Steam, Black Ryno and Chuck Fender.

"The River rhythm is one of the hottest rhythms out there right now. It's getting a lot of rotation and it's also doing well in the streets," said Corey, adding that the next project for the label is the Money Boss rhythm. "We are currently working on this project and, so far, we have recorded Mavado, Jahmiel and Nigma."

Corey has been juggling his duties as a producer, artiste, manager, and promoter at MBR.

"MBR is not just a label, we are a full-service entertainment company. We are into artiste management and events promotions as well. Right now, I'm working with a very talented crop of young artistes which includes Nigma, who is doing well with two hot singles under his belt, Mineral Boss and Calm Her Dung. We also have Burning Kry and my son MBR Steam in the camp."

MBR is also responsible for the staging of the ultra-popular daytime Happy Sundays and the Wet Wet Wednesdayz parties that are held weekly at the Mineral Bath in Caymanas Bay, St Catherine.

"These are two of the hottest parties in Jamaica. People travel from all over the island every week to attend our parties. We also get a lot of visitors from overseas," he said.
