Mayor to get tough on illegal vending in St Catherine

Mayor of the St Catherine Parish Council, Norman Scott, said the zero-tolerance on illegal vending will continue throughout the parish.

Scott said despite receiving threats from unknown persons who are against the action, the local planning authority is recommending that vending be done in prescribed areas.

Scott told The Star that the threats have been reported to the Spanish Town police.

"We are still dealing with illegal vending in Linstead and Old Harbour with a view of providing orderly development; so no threat can stop me," Scott said.

He said that the work is being conducted between the police and municipal officers.

Meanwhile the Spanish Town police confirmed that a probe has been launched into the matter.
