St Catherine residents concerned about robberies

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Residents of Linstead and surrounding areas in St Catherine have expressed concern about robberies and break-ins in their communities. This was revealed at a town hall meeting recently.

The meeting was attended by members of the banking community, representatives from the Lay Magistrate Association and the Police Consultative Committee.

During the meeting, the residents complained about the numerous break-ins in homes and businesses. They said they were reluctant to walk the streets out of fear of getting robbed.

Superintendent of Police Mevral Smith, crime chief for the St Catherine North Division, said the police will be going all out to stop robberies.

"When persons are carrying shotguns and housebreaking implements, it is bulky and can be seen. We, therefore, need the community's support with information," Smith said.

Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, head of the division, promised to strengthen the police presence in the communities.

Caution

Business persons were told to be careful, especially during the upcoming Christmas season. They were told that whenever large sums of money are being carried, the police should be contacted for escort services.

The businessmen and women said they have being experiencing reasonable service delivery from the police.
