Williamson wants permanent role

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Lee Williamson believes he will bring experience and know-how to the senior national football team, should coach Winfried Schafer give him a starting role in tonight's World Cup qualifier against Nicaragua.

The 33-year-old is determined to become a regular starter in future World Cup squads.

"Glad to be back in the squad, that's what I always wanted. as the years pass and you get older, it becomes harder but, fortunately, this year, I've been selected again, which is a good thing," he said in a recent interview at the Norman Manley International Airport.

Having missed out on national representation in mid-2008, after an injury forced him out of the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers, Williamson's continues to believe in himself.

"I've been playing regular football in the championships in England, playing in a good league so I have been fortunate to be called again," he continued.

The 33-year-old said he is excited and eager to fight for his spot.

"I can't wait. It's been a while now, seven years since I last played. I still have not lost my hunger. I can't wait to get out there," he stressed.

Though Williamson was not a part of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and Copa America teams, he maintains that he followed the Reggae Boyz performances keenly.

He is of the view that his form and consistent performances for Blackburn in the English League One Championship earned him his recall.
