Reggae superstar Etana copped three awards during the 34th annual International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) held at the Bailey Hall in Broward College, Fort Lauderdale, on Sunday evening.

She won awards in the categories Female Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year. She also walked away with the Marcus Garvey humanitarian award for her charity work, advocacy on behalf of better lives for the people of Africa and spirit of volunteerism.

"I have so many awards throughout my career, but I never got one for Song of the Year, so I am pleased about that. I am proud of all of my awards because it shows that my work has not gone unnoticed," she said.

Last year, Etana topped Billboard's Reggae album chart with her fourth studio album, I Rise, the first time in 17 years that a female artiste had accomplished that feat. She held the top spot for four weeks, before returning to the top 10 in February and again in June of this year in the weeks following her successful US west coast tour.

The Clive Hunt-produced album is Etana's fourth entry on the album chart. The last time a Jamaican female reggae artiste topped the chart was 1997 with Diana King's Think like a Girl.

Other IRAWMA winners included: Tarrus Riley (Best Male Vocalist); Inner Circle (most outstanding show band); Latin musician Tito Puente Jr and broadcaster John T. Hodgson (Award of Honour); Ploomie Lewis, Desmond Patterson and Osbourne Elliot (South Florida Award for Lifetime Contribution to the Music Industry for Over 40 years).

Established in 1982, IRAWMA acknowledges the accomplishments and contributions of reggae and world music artistes, songwriters, performers and promoters.
