Cabbies' squabble leads to warning

André Williams, STAR Writer

Taxi men who operate from Half-Way Tree to Papine were given a stern warning recently after one of their colleagues appeared in court for assault.

Germeico Campbell was told to warn his fellow taxi operators after Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey felt too many of them were appearing before her for similar offences.

Campbell is charged with common assault.

The court heard that on October 1, he allegedly pushed the complainant, who is also a taxi driver, in his face.

Campbell in his defence said, "Your Honour, it was a fight between him and my aunt, and I went between them and was parting it."

Pusey said, "I'm going to start sending some of you taxi men to GP..."

Campbell was fined $5,000 or three months' imprisonment.
