Phone thief fined

Bjorn Burke, STAR Writer

A man accused of stealing a cellular phone using trickery was fined when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Charged with larceny by trick is 20-year-old Givounaghie Patterson.

Allegations are that the complainant reportedly asked Patterson to charge his cellular phone and the accused complied.

Prolonged wait

After Patterson gained possession of the device, it is said that the complainant was left waiting for a prolonged period before he became suspicious.

The complainant then concluded that the accused man made off with his cellular phone.

A report was made to the police, and Patterson was subsequently arrested and charged.

In court, the accused man was ordered by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey to pay a fine of $15,000 or serve six months in prison.

A fingerprint order was also made against him.
