Journalist to host event planning workshop

Dr Dennis Howard

Curtis Campbell, Star Writer

Veteran journalist and university lecturer Dr Dennis Howard will be hosting his two-day event planning, design and production workshop today and tomorrow at Garmex Heart Academy, Marcus Garvey Drive.

Patrons will be required to pay $10,000 for Howard's time. However, they will also receive an internationally accepted certification to validate their skills in event planning.

Howard told The STAR that his main target includes seasoned event planners, beginners and employees who organise events.

"It is increasingly becoming evident that event-driven marketing and commemorative special events are the way to go in Jamaica for the private and public sectors. However, the level of professionalism is lacking. Also, many folks involved in event management need to attain certification and sharpen their skills, hence the professional development series, where we will offer international certification and transfer of new skills," he said.

The event is endorsed by Heart Trust/NTA, Institute of Cultural Policy and Innovation and approved by the International Special Events Society. To register, call 906-4515 or 466-6933.
