Investigators in the St Catherine North Police Division are still searching for a group of men who eluded a police party after stealing a vehicle which crashed following a chase.

The action of the Bog Walk police led to the swift recovery of a 2014 Honda CRV, about 15 minutes after it was robbed from the owner.

"I think this time the police did a wonderful job, and have saved millions of dollars. This is simply a great job as a result of swift police work," Michael Mitchell, a businessman, said.

His view was echoed by other persons and motorists in particular, who gave thumbs up to the police.

Reports are that on Thursday the police heard that the vehicle was stolen about 7 p.m. in Ewarton in the parish. A vehicle fitting the description was spotted passing the Bog Walk Police Station.

The police gave chase and the vehicle crashed along the Pleasant Hill main road near Sligoville.

The occupants fled on foot in the wooded area. A search was conducted by the police, however, the hoodlums managed to escape in bushes.

During a search of the SUV, a loaded Smith and Wesson pistol was found. The vehicle was taken to the police station compound for safe keeping.
