Drunk man damages JUTC bus

A drunk man, accused of destroying the rear glass of a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus, was remanded before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with malicious destruction of property is Paul Steadman who pleaded "guilty with explanation".

Allegations are that on the day of the incident, Steadman boarded the bus but had no fare. After a brief argument with the driver, a passenger paid his fare.

After reaching his stop, Steadman reportedly threw a stone into the back of the bus, shattering the rear window.

"Your Honour, I was having a bad morning, and I was drinking excessively," Steadman said.

"How long you plan to go to prison for it?" asked Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey.

"I would rather pay something, Ma'am," Steadman replied.

He was remanded until November 2 for sentencing. A fingerprint order was also made.
