Man convicted for car theft

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

One of three St Catherine men charged with receiving a stolen motor car was convicted in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court last week. He is Jermaine Brown, 35-year-old labourer of Deeside district, Linstead, St Catherine.

His co-accused, Jason Nelson and Jermaine Franci, were freed by the court. The trial, which ended about 7 p.m., saw Francis calling two witnesses to prove his innocence.

During the trial, it was revealed that Brown was the person responsible for the theft of the Mitsubishi motor car and that Nelson and Francis were not criminally liable. The Crown led evidence that about 10:30 p.m. on April 20, 2011, the complainant was inside her car in Deeside when she was robbed at gunpoint by a man who drove away with the vehicle.

It was reported to the Linstead police and an investigation launched. On May 21, 2011, the police intercepted the vehicle with Nelson, Francis and Brown on board.

They were arrested. Following further investigation, they were charged by Detective Constable Gregory McLeod.
