Ankle injury a worry for Knight

Livingston Scott, STAR Writer

When the Clarendon College team won the daCosta Cup title last season, midfielder and goalscoring ace Seigel Knight was one of their leading players.

This year, Knight's performances have been a bit below the high standards he set in 2014, and he has revealed that he has been nursing an ankle injury.

"The reason I am not performing as well as last season is because I am carrying an injury to my right ankle. But I still try to perform at my best because my side needs me," Knight said last Saturday.

"They say without me they lose. They (teammates and spectators alike) are always shouting at me when they want things to happen on the field. They say I can make one pass and win a game," he said.

"I think I have performed well enough to help my team to this stage, but you can expect better in upcoming matches," he added.

In last Saturday's ISSA/FLOW Cup round of 16 match against Hydel High at Sabina Park, the player did not score, but provided the assist for the winning goal, a delightful through ball from the half line to the 18-yard box, for striker Joel Sterling to make it 2-1 in extra-time.

Knight said their game plan changed when Hydel went down to 10 men.

"They (Hydel) went down to 10 men and they started to get tired, so we just began to run at them.

"I saw the pass from way back, but I wasn't sure if I should do it on the cricket pitch because I was sliding. But I made it and I am happy," he said.

Knight has 11 goals this season and his aim is to score as many as 25.

"It's just this ankle injury that is hampering me, but I'm getting over it and I am sure I will be back to my best before the end of the competition.
