Double the fun
Elgin Taylor, Star Writer

In May 2003 Gavin and Simone Genus of Spanish Town, St Catherine, had something else to be happy about in their lives. The couple was expecting their first child, or so they thought.

"We were happily looking forward to our first child but what happened was beyond our expectations. Actually, my husband made the discovery during our first ultrasound. He was the one who pointed out a second heartbeat to the nurse. It was a shock at first but we have learnt to cope," she recounted the event to The Star Life and Times.

She further informed The Star Life and Times that the twins were born in London, England, and that they were two months premature . Georgia was the firstborn and her sister, Gavae, came two minutes later. The date was December 24, 2003. An uncle and a grandmother who resided with the Genus' as well as other relatives and friends also shared in the joy of the twin's birth.

Their mother also mentioned that the girls are very protective of each other, and that this was even more evident when they were younger.

The Star Life and Times also gleaned from the twins that they would like to become teachers when they grow up. The reason is that they will be able to help others to become what they want to be. Their favourite food is pizza and both listed blue as their colour of choice.

They are grade two students at Angels Primary School in Spanish Town, St Catherine, and their class teacher is Stacy-Ann Walker.

Georgia, the more talkative of the two, said her favourite subject is Mathematics, while Gavae gave hers as Integrated Science.

Both girls are avid television watchers with Georgia's favourite programmes being Jessie and Good Luck Charlie, while for her sister it is Best Dance Groups.

They are also fond of playing the X Box 360 video games and doing a bit of dancing. Gavae joked that her sister Georgia is the dancer while she mainly just watches.

The closeness of the girls manifests itself at school also, through work and play. It was also further learnt that Georgia is quicker to make friends than her sister.

They attend the Triumphant Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic, in Spanish Town.

Interestingly, for the past two years both of them have been enrolled in karate classes. Simone revealed that they expressed an interest and she gave them permission to participate. She stressed that the purpose is for discipline and not for them to learn skills to attack others. She said they are enjoying themselves in the process.

She noted too that they have been performing well in primary school. She described them as "two sweet girls who give no trouble and like doing household chores."
