Two on fraud rap offered bail
The two men accused of conspiracy to deceive arising from the matter involving ex-policeman Orlando Beckford and fraudulent documents he allegedly issued to the British High Commission recently, were offered $80,000 bail each in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court today.

Charged with conspiracy to deceive are 37-year-old Gavin Campbell of Boone Hall, Stony Hill, St Andrew, and Chevar Beecher, 29, from Greater Portmore, St Catherine.

The court heard that Beecher collected the money from the ex-cop for a fraudulent bank statement he issued to the British authorities, while it was disclosed that Campbell allegedly prepared the bank statement.

They entered a not guilty plea to the charge.

The lawyers representing both accused presented the resident magistrate with enough arguments for her to be lenient and grant both men bail.

They were ordered to return to court on June 19 when the matter will again be mentioned. They were also instructed to give their fingerprints to the police and surrender their travel documents.

In addition, Beecher was told to report to the Greater Portmore police on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while Campbell was told to report to the Stony Hill police on the same days.

The RM told the men that a cellphone and a laptop taken from them were being reviewed and analysed to assist with the police's investigations.
