Man caught with ganja remanded
A man caught with 48 pounds and 15 ounces of ganja was remanded when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Gawayne Beckford pleaded guilty to possession of, dealing in and using a vehicle to transport ganja. He, however, entered a not guilty plea for taking steps to export the drugs.

Beckford appeared before Resident Magistrate Desiree Alleyne. He was represented by attorney-at-law Floyd Green.

The court heard that Beckford was observed driving on the Portmore toll road in a manner that attracted the police's attention. The police stopped him and when they asked him if he had anything, he allegedly told the officers that he had ganja.

One suitcase and a red and black bag were found containing the drug, which was wrapped in duct tape and compressed.

The bags were opened in his presence and Beckford reportedly told the officers he was going to drop off the bags in Mountain View, Kingston.

RM Alleyne ordered that Beckford be remanded until May 21 at which time he should return to court for sentencing. An enquiry of his record will also be conducted.
